my startup confession: people say no

Have you ever felt as though you were heading in the right direction…and then something burst your bubble?  My latest startup confession may sound familiar.

Last month I was very excited!

I was so encouraged by the direction that my business was headed towards: I delivered two coaching workshops which were a massive hit, had several consultations with interested prospects, secured a lucrative contract with a new client and made some great new connections at the European Social Innovation Assembly in Amsterdam.

I was looking forward to January when my one-to-one program would be near capacity.

my startup confession: sometimes I’m scared

,Growing up in America, Halloween was one of my favourite occasions.  It was so much fun to carve pumpkins, watch scary movies, go on a haunted hayride, eat a sickly amount of candy corn, and wear a costume that would be the envy of all my friends!

During my final year of high school, my friend and I dressed up as giant M&Ms and somehow managed to win the prize for “best costume”.  Unfortunately the only photographic evidence is at my mother’s house so I can’t share it with you today.  You’ll  just have to imagine me as a giant blue M&M with white hands and booties!

Are you ready for my startup confession?

The past few weeks had been going really well.

I made some amazing new connections, held a successful Meetup for a community of like-minded entrepreneurs, and received glowing feedback and praise from the coaching sessions I’d delivered.

After fearing that asphyxia would come at this uncharted altitude, I could finally see the peak of the mountain.

I felt really positive about my message and about the genuine interest people were taking in me and my business.  I basked in the glory of that moment and felt such pride and accomplishment.
