Lately, I’ve been reflecting on something that’s been on my mind for a while now: the idea of balance.
We’ve been led to believe that balance is the ultimate goal.
We put ourselves under so much pressure to juggle work, family, self-care, and everything else without missing a beat.
But the truth is, balance is a myth.
At one point, I was managing client work, program development, operations, and marketing all at once.
I was also trying to maintain a full personal schedule.
On the surface, it looked like I was balancing it all. But in reality, I was absolutely exhausted.
We can’t give equal energy, attention and time to everything all at once.
We can’t succeed in every area of our business and life.
We can’t be perfect, as much as we try to be.
It just isn’t possible.
And that’s okay.
It doesn’t mean that you’re failing. It means you’re human.
Chasing balance not only creates constant stress, but it also undermines our ability to focus on what really matters.
You stop making strategic decisions.
You say yes to too many things.
You lose momentum on the projects that actually matter.
You put off the important tasks that require your full attention.
And over time, your progress slows, your confidence dips, and your business feels harder than it should.
So, let’s stop chasing balance.
Instead, what if we focused on creating a business and life that actually supports our values and honours what we truly need right now?
Instead of striving for perfection, we focused on being present?
Instead of wearing ourselves thin, we aligned our time and energy with what feels right for us?
You need to identify what matters most to you right and make deliberate choices in both your business and personal life.
Sometimes it means restructuring your offers to reflect your current capacity.
Other times, it’s about reducing your work hours to manage other responsibilities.
Or even about pausing social obligations to protect your capacity during a high-demand period at work.
It may involve rethinking your schedule, setting boundaries and even letting some people down.
True success doesn’t come from balancing everything perfectly.
It comes from being aligned with what you value most.
It’s about creating a business that supports your life, not the other way around.
Focus on what makes sense for you, right here, right now.
And let go of the idea of perfection.
If you’re unsure where to begin, look at the last two weeks of your calendar.
- What drained your time or energy without delivering anything meaningful in return?
- What activities felt urgent but weren’t actually important?
- What could have been delegated, cancelled, or rescheduled?
- What did you do out of habit, guilt, or pressure to keep up?
Now ask yourself:
- What actually needs your attention right now?
- What would feel easier if you created more space for it?
- What are you avoiding because it requires focus or clarity?
- What are you willing to stop so you can protect what matters most?
You don’t need a complete overhaul.
You just need to choose what truly matters for you in this season and structure your time around it.
